Halloween Dog Costumes: Pirates

Halloween is fast approaching and why let your dogs miss the fun? Let your adorable pups join you in your trick and treating. Make them join a Halloween Dog Fashion Walk or something. He or she might get himself/herself a year of doggie treats!

Aye! Aye! Captain. No, don't think of Spongebob. Your dogs can play pirates this Halloween. This black costume with red and gold accents will definitely make your pets stand out. The cute little hat comes with the costume.

Your dogs wouldn't have a hard time putting this on since they do have a Velcro front closure. Each costume (any size) is sold for $33 at Muttropolis. Click on the image above for more details and for the close up of the costume.

Dogs Can Talk

It was a night with the family when I found out about Mishka, the talking Siberian Husky dog. My cousin, who is also fond of dogs, got my attention and asked me to watch the video. Now, I want to get your attention and watch this video for yourself.

Dog Pictures on Pinterest

I recently got addicted to Pinterest. Thanks to my online friend, mayen. When I click the link to Pinterest, wether accidentally or in purpose, I always get hooked for not less than 30 minutes.

There, I can browse pictures of things I go gaga about like dogs. I have a board, Mutts are Love like the name of this blog. And whenever I see cute pictures of dogs, I pin it in there. You must go see! If you're a dog lover, you can get plenty of picture inspirations in there. I promise.

I'll give you a preview of what's inside my board in there. Here.

The Mourning Dog

I found out about this dog through Yahoo!News. And again, it never fails to touch my heart. I felt sad again and remembered all those sad dog stories and movies that I have came to know.

It sort of reminded me of Hachiko, who kept on waiting for his owner on the same spot, only that his master will never come. He died. In this certain dog story that I am about to tell, Hawkeye, the dog knew that his master was gone. Why? Because he mourned beside his master's casket. His owner is Jon Tumilson, the Navy Seal who died.

This was really heartbreaking. Read on the detailed news about Hawkeye, the dog who refused to leave his master's side, here. I am just so sad and at the same time, touched by how profound a dog's heart is. They are like the perfect creatures that God has sent us.

The picture above Jon Tumilson's casket is himself with Hawkeye. That picture simply shows that there is a tight bond between the two.

As of this writing, I have read several follow-up news about Hawkeye like how he is going to be adopted by the dead man's bestfriend and how he was requested to march the University of Iowa football team, the Hawkeyes on one of their games.

The Dog Spots Chronicles: The Mall

Whenever I see dogs on the streets, in the malls, wherever, I want to play with them, or at least, touch them. Hence, this blog series -- The Dog Spots Chronicles. I'll tell you of the dogs that have been part of my life even for just a minute or two. Just because I don't have my dogs with me now.

Meet Purple.

She's a contender for cutest pet in costume as per her owner. Her owner is really friendly and nice and doesn't mind strangers playing with her dog. Purple has a friend, but we didn't get to know her as she was shy. So, we played with Purple instead.

Okay, why are you looking at me like that?

Oh, I'm so tired of being the center of everybody's attention

Oh, here's a pic of Purple's friend. I haven't catched her name.

Stay tuned for more Dog Spots! ;}

Which Toy Dog Breed Do You Like: A Poll Result

I would like to thank everyone who has participated in my first ever poll for Mutts are Love. I also have voted in my own poll. Lol. And my vote went to the Pomeranian breed.

Here is the Poll Result for the Preferred Toy Dog Breeds of random people, I suppose, are dog lovers, who have passed by my doggy blog.

Pomeranian ----------- 4
Pug ------------------- 2
Shih Tzu -------------- 1
Yorkshire Terrier ----- 4
Chihuahua ------------ 2
Miniature Pinscher ---- 2

Therefore, I would like to commend the Pomeranians and Yorkshire Terriers for winning this poll. They really are cute! And I would like to have a Pom someday. But it costs Php25,000.

BoomBoom, my dog, is a half-pomeranian, half-Japanese Spitz. I think these two breeds make the cutest pups! :) Don't you think?

A Two-Legged Walking Dog Named Faith

A dog has the soul of a philosopher.
- Plato

This standing dog reminds me of yet, another inspiring dog story I have read online. It's about a dog named Faith who was born on Christmas Eve (2002) with only two legs. The poor puppy can't walk. Here was how he looked like:

A Dying Man and His Dog

I found this picture in my tumblr. It made me sad once again. Another true dog story that touched me and made me leak once again. Read on.

A homeless man, Kevin McClain is living with his dog, Yurt in a car. This duo is living in Iowa. However, Kevin is dying of lung cancer. They were taken out of the car by respective authorities.

Kevin was brought to the hospital, while Yurt was taken into an animal shelter. They were departed. I know how it is to be away from your pets. Kevin's last wish before he dies is for him to see her Kurt. He wanted to see his dog, his pet, his only family, his only companion, his only love. Hence, this reunion.

Yes, Kevin already died at 57. Yurt, on the other hand, was adopted by Kate and Eric. The new owners said the dog was full of energy. To quote, Eric said,

“When we first saw her online in the bio it said, has a very compelling story, but you know, at the time those were just words,”
Kevin and Yurt had a beautiful story, one of the best man-and-dog stories that I have heard. I feel the urge to spread it to those who know of canine love. Read more about this dog story. Or take a look at the reunion photos here.

Mutt Mugs Quote: Dogs and Lions

Every dog is a lion at home.
- H.G. Bohn

This is a Saturday Pet Blogger Hop, though it's a Sunday, err, Monday already in my part of the earth. I miss my dogs, and I want them to go live with me as soon as possible. I am finding ways on how to speed up their moving out from my hometown. It's a different world without them.

For now, that's all I can say. I need my sleep since I have work tomorrow. And I need to follow some doggy blogs. Hope you like the Mutt Mug quote for today. *wink*

If Only My Dogs Could Read

Yes, I made my dogs a letter. Call me crazy, but I just miss them too much. :((
______________________________________

Dearest doggies,

I am so sorry that we’ve been apart for three and a half doggy years already. I know! I really dislike this set-up, but I know you dislike this more than I do.

I know you long for my touch and my attention, I am also missing your furry feel and wet kisses. I need you all here with me now. I get so lonely whenever I see other dogs in here and I’d like you to know that it’s everyday. I think about you when I wake up. I think about you at work (when everything seems tiring and boring). I think about you during my ride home. I think about you before I sleep. I think about you even in my dreams. Swear, I dreamed each and everyone of you one night. I was so happy in my dreams, so complete. When I woke up and saw my ceiling, I know it was only an illusion.

I miss you. So bad. Totally. Tremendously.

My love bank is emptying and I need you in my life here. I am working on it. Yes, I am. Doubly. I want to ride the airplane, put you in your little houses and make you ride the boat, and live with me here. I daydreamed about this million of times, babies. Eversince the day that

Why God Made a Dog's Life 7x Shorter

I cam across this story on Aizanity {my tumblr}. The human life to dog life ratio is really depressing. How I wish dogs could live as long as we do. As to why God deemed this ratio as the right thing, this kiddo may know.

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.”

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life – like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?”

The six-year-old continued,
“Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

Aww, I wonder where the child got his idea. Maybe Belker taught him that. A dog's love is so pure that another pure soul learned how to love with a pure heart. When I read dog stories, I feel the strong urge to find  a way of bringing my dogs here in Cavite. I'd like to share each beautiful day with them. I'm really hoping this blog can speed up their moving out.

Building Up my Doggy Community

I was surprised to see that somebody followed my doggy blog. It was a mood upper for me, so I scanned her website and saw that she is affiliated with other organizations, blogs and other dog websites. I wanted to do that, hence this.

I've placed some script in this post for a confirmation on Avantlink.com. Goodluck to me.

More dogberries coming soon. :)

True Love: A Dog Story

I remembered a dog post that I did on my personal blog months ago. I found this on Karla's site and I just want to share it again here. Though it's heartbreaking, I just want to share how a dog loves. On how limitless is the creature's capacity to give love.

Hey, wake up! wake up!

The lying dog got knocked down by a reckless driver. After a few minutes, another dog came up. He tried to wake up his wife.

Let’s move to the safer side of the road…I will move you to the safer side!

Dogs melt my heart away and remind me that each earthly creature has a capacity to feel. Whether I see them in the streets, walking, or inside my house, playing with each other, dogs always pull a fragile tug on my heart. I have StumbledUpon this great dog art/literary and I wouldn't miss sharing this on my dog blog.

Every dog owner and wanna-be dog owner should read and feel this to make the lives of our beloved mutts worthwhile.

Moving On From a Pet's Death

Posting BongBong's picture required a lot of effort for me. I still can't look him in the eyes in the picture. Then these unnecessary thoughts begin to bug me.

If I have stayed here during the holy week, would he still be alive?
We could have played together for days when I have stayed with him.
He could have been alived.
He could have stayed in my tita's house where he's safe.
Does he hate me right now?

I just missed him. His death is so sudden. He was a jolly dog. I can sense Suri's loneliness, too. He isn't as active anymore. He just lay flat under Ruby, the car. And he keeps on looking at BongBong's post. Dogs know when they lost a friend, too. And they feel helpless and sad about it.

*Real bad feelings creep in*

I don't want to reminisce because I don't want to cry. I'll think of him as my angel, my angel whom I dearly love.

ByeBye, BongBong ;'c

Last night, my cousin told me out of the blue that my dog died. I felt nothing. At first. It's only when Suri came inside the house gate that I started to feel bad. There's no BongBong that tailed after him. Tito Boyet had made Suri go home after taking care of the dogs for only seven days. Said BongBong died two days before we got back. Blood was in his poop. Must have eaten something.

Suri and BongBong are two Aspins that my cousins and I bought outside the gates of UP Los Banos October of last year. When my titas, cousins and I left Manila for Iloilo for my birthday and a family reunion, we left Suri and BongBong under the care of a relative. When we were in Iloilo, Mama even told me that BongBong enjoyed my tito's place and has gotten really big. When we arrived here in Elbi, I didn't have the urge to ask about BongBong when I would usually find him when I get back here for the weekend. I don't know, but I haven't had the urge to go look for him. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he's already gone.

Why the Blog Title?

Mutts. What are they?

Mutt, aside from it being the cool sounding word, is a slang for a mixed-breed dog. If you are geeky and kind of despise this definition, then I'll give you what you need:

Mutt --noun (1) a dog, especially a mongrel, (2) a dog which is not purebred, either literally a mix of two or more breeds, as is the case with crossbred dogs, (3) dog which is not literally a mix of pure breeds, but rather which have never been bred, such as primitive or pariah dog populations who evolved without intentional intervention by humans.

There you go. Sometimes, mutt, along with cur, mongrel and tyke, is used in a derogatory manner, but I find it cute. Anyway, I have several mutts with me. Most are of Japanese Spitz and Pomeranian origin. The two are a mix of Aspin (Asong Pinoy or Filipino dog) and some other breed. You'll get to know each one of them. Relax.

By now, you know why I have chose such title. Through this dog blog, I would share the memories and experiences that I have with these dogs. I hope I can bring them all with me soon. I am in my worktown and they are still in my hometown. May this blog be one of the ways that can hasten the reunion process.

Stay tuned for more DogBerries. ;)
